Khatu Shyam Ji Temple, in the village of Khatu in Rajasthan's Sikar district, is dedicated to Shyam Baba, who devotees identify with Barbarika, the grandson of Bhima in the Mahabharata. Barbarika, known as Teen Baan Dhari, the bearer of three arrows, was so skilled that he could end the war alone. Krishna asked him for his head as a gift, and in return granted that he would be worshipped in the Kali Yuga under Krishna's own name, Shyam.

The head is said to have been buried at Khatu and found centuries later, and devotees believe the deity answers prayers made at the temple. Many families visit for rituals such as a child's first haircut.

Tradition holds that Krishna installed the head (mukut) of the Mahabharata warrior Barbarika at this site after Barbarika offered it as daan. The shrine's rediscovery is credited to the blind bhopa Ahabaran, who reportedly identified the buried idol in the Shyam Kund. The present main temple was built in 1720 CE by Diwan Abhaisingh of Khatu under Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II of Jaipur, and the white-marble structure was substantially renovated in the 20th century with a new shikhara.

The present temple, built in 1720, is in the Nagara style with Rajasthani features, and has been renovated since with white Makrana marble. The sanctum holds the head of Shyam Baba, decorated with garlands and a large turban-like crown.

Beside the temple is the Shyam Kund, the pond where the head is said to have been found. Devotees bathe in its waters, and a smaller shrine to Gaurishankar stands nearby. The compound has a hall that can hold large crowds.

Worship follows a daily cycle of aartis, with the deity's decoration changed daily. Devotees offer coconut, flowers and sweets, and walk to the temple from Ringas carrying flags (nishan) in a tradition that has grown over the decades.

The largest event is the Phalguna fair in February or March, which draws large crowds and builds toward Ekadashi. Janmashtami and Holi are also celebrated.
