History of Khatu Shyam Ji Temple
Tradition holds that Krishna installed the head (mukut) of the Mahabharata warrior Barbarika at this site after Barbarika offered it as daan. The shrine's rediscovery is credited to the blind bhopa Ahabaran, who reportedly identified the buried idol in the Shyam Kund. The present main temple was built in 1720 CE by Diwan Abhaisingh of Khatu under Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II of Jaipur, and the white-marble structure was substantially renovated in the 20th century with a new shikhara.
