History of Manu Temple
The site is associated with the Puranic legend in which the righteous Manu was forewarned of the cosmic flood by Matsya (Vishnu's fish avatar), built a great boat, and re-seeded humanity in this valley. The current stone-and-wood structure was raised by the rajas of Kullu, though the site has been continuously worshipped for centuries. The temple stands above the settlement of Old Manali, reached by a flight of stone steps, and remains a working shrine as well as a popular heritage stop.
