According to local tradition, this is where Parshuram performed penance and reunited with his mother Renuka. The site is on the banks of Renuka Lake, with the small Parshuram Tapobhoomi (meditation rock) preserved across the road as a sacred space. The temple is unstaffed for most of the year but draws significant crowds during the Renuka fair in November. It is the only Parshuram-dedicated temple in Himachal that sits adjacent to a Renuka temple.
